Human Computer Interface

Human Computer Interface also known as HCI is how humans communicate with technology this can include controllers, remote controll, touch screen, switches and buttons. All of these devices allows humans to control and give input to computer systems, games consoles and mobile devices.

The games market currently has three main revivals battleing out to be the number one games console;

The Nintendo Wii
The Xbox 360
The PlayStation 3

All of these consoles use Controllers and sensors for the users to interact with them ranging from buttons, triggers and anologe sticks to full body camera tracking Devices.

Although there are three contenders within this blog i will be comparing the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 Human Computer Interface.

Interface Devices


Interface devices are used to communicate with technology such as game consoles, phones and computers. There is a wide range of interface devices from keyboards to joysticks and camera sensors.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation's interface devices fall under the controller category, they both include buttons, triggers, analogue sticks, d-pad, bumpers and vibration technology.

Xbox 360 Controller


This is the Xbox 360 Controller as you can see it offers a wide range of buttons and different input sensors allowing for a higher experienced gaming experience, this controller uses an ergonomic design therefore making the controller comfortable to hold and use. The curved back nicely sits in your hand and the curved triggers offer comfortable use.

The buttons and input features have all been designed for quick access and use, the analogue sticks have been placed in positions close the the thumb along with the buttons. The triggers are positioned directly where your fingers are positioned when your holding the device so using them is comfy ad seems natural

PlayStation 3


This is the PlayStation 3 controller just like the Xbox 360 controller it offers dual anologue sticks, d-pads, buttons, triggers, bumpers and vibrating technology however this controller also has six-axis technology and a built in rechargeable battery.

The PlayStation 3's controller is also designed for easy and comfortable use, like the Xbox's controller all buttons and input methods have been positioned for the most comfortable and natural use.
